Keeping It Fair?

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 by Michele

your-parenting-info1If you have more than one child, you probably have heard, “But you didn’t make Bobby (or Sally or whomever) do it. . .” in a nice, whiny tone.  And while parenting isn’t about keeping everything even but more importantly making sure every child has what he needs, there are times when parents should contemplate equity.

Written from the perspective of a second-born teenager, a recent article on Your Parenting Info (a sister site of Select Index) encourages parents to consider keeping some things fair.  Click here to read the full article.

Family Food

tasty-thoughts-2Every St. Patrick’s Day my children eagerly anticipate dinner.  It isn’t the corned beef that has them excited, though.  It is the Irish soda bread that I make using my grandmother’s recipe.  Since I only make this bread for March 17th, they are sure to be home for that dinner.

To try my family’s recipe and add it to your collection of holiday recipes, visit our sister site, Tasty Thoughts.

good-life1Of course, most vacations require traveling.  That is part of the lure of the trip- going to somewhere new and distant.  However, once you arrive at your desired location, it can be beneficial to have several “must-see” choices located near each other.

If you are traveling to Barcelona, Spain, you are in luck.  When you visit Plaça d’Espanya there are many sites of interest surrounding the round-a-bout.  To learn more about this travel destination, visit our sister site, Good Life Review.

Fruit Punch for Adults

Friday, March 20th, 2009 by Michele

parchedAs a kid, I can remember going to birthday parties and being handed a paper cup filled with vibrantly red fruit punch.  It was overwhelmingly sweet, making it the perfect beverage to serve to a 6 year old.

As an adult, I still enjoy the taste of fruit in a beverage, but I prefer it to be much less sweeter.  I also prefer a slight kick to my adult version of fruit punch.

Our sister site, Parched No More, has an excellent recipe for Fun with Fruit, adult-style.  Give it a try for a more refined version of punch.

go-shoppingPeople tend either to love or hate shopping.  Either you would rather spend a Saturday afternoon going from store to store, or you would rather not step foot in the mall.  However, regardless to your feelings for shopping, it is a necessity.

Granted, you may not have to spend all of  your free time in a store, but life does require one to purchase stuff:  clothing, food, cleaning items, home decor, etc.  If you are a shop avoider, then you should read a recent article on our sister site, Go Shopping Info.  This article has great advice for making shopping a more enjoyable experience.

A Different Animal for Your House

Friday, March 13th, 2009 by Michele

feathersPerhaps you are considering adopting or purchasing an animal for your house.  There are plenty of excellent companion animals, such as dogs, cats, and rabbits.

However, maybe you want an animal that provides a little return on its investment.  With food prices rising and jobs disappearing, many people have taken to raising some of their own food.  One suggestion would be to raise turkeys.  Our sister site, Feathers Fins and Fur, has information about a book that can help you begin your career as a turkey farmer.  Click here to read more.

Do as I Do

your-parenting-infoAs parents, we often make requests of our children:

“Eat all of your vegetables.”

“You should go outside and get some exercise.”

However, we often don’t follow our own advice.  We make excuses for why we don’t have the time to do these things or why we don’t need to do these things.

On our sister site, Your Parenting Info, there is an excellent article about why we need to follow the advice we give to our children.  Read How to Raise Healthy Children, and become a better informed parent.
